iEARN Students in Kuwait Receive Training From Local Journalists

The US State Department's, Office of the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) High School Journalism Program is an initiative that seeks to support partnerships between newspapers and high schools to develop quality school news publications in Kuwait. As part of iEARN administered the program, students in Kuwait receive training in independent multimedia journalism, mentoring from local journalists, and the opportunity to complete a summer internship with local news agencies.

This summer, three students from the Kuwait MEPI High School Journalism program acompanied their journalist mentors to their news agencies where they completed summer internships. Participating news agency’s included: the globally accredited Al Qabas Newspaper, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), and Samra Magazine.

Through internships, students shadowed their journalist mentors, learned techniques in communication, broadcasting, film, video and photography, and received certificates acknowledging their achievements.
