SEL in the Global Classroom

Participants: Open to all educators and schools/districts.
What's it All About?
Are your students struggling socially and emotionally as they transition back to the classroom and deal with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic? Have you wondered about the connection between social and emotional skills and global competence and culture? In this interactive workshop, educators will learn what Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is, how it is beneficial, and the vital connection between SEL and global competence. Educators will learn practical strategies and activities to support their students to understand themselves and others, build healthy relationships, and make responsible and ethical decisions. Educators will leave the workshop with concrete tips, resources, and ideas for developing students’ social, emotional, and global competence and embedding globally-focused SEL practices within their instruction.
This workshop will include guest speaker Donna Black, SEL expert and author of the book Essentials of Social Emotional Learning (SEL): The Complete Guide for Schools and Practitioners.

By completing this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain what Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is along with its benefits
- Recognize the connections between social, emotional, and global competence
- Apply tips, strategies, and resources for developing students’ social, emotional, and global competence and embedding globally-focused SEL practices in their instruction
