Learning Circles Online Course Weekly Outline

In
order for you to get a better understanding of the Learning Circles online course content, we outline the weekly activities
of the course in the following. Before you read on to the content,
please, take another look at the iEARN online course prerequisites for
participants:
* Basic word processing, Internet and e-mailing skills
* Reliable access to a computer and Internet
* Availability to commit at least 5 hours a week to course activities
* A classroom/students whom you will be working with throughout the course period
* Working knowledge of English
Now, please, read the Weekly Outline of the iEARN Learning Circle
online course. The Learning Circle course uses a six phases of a
learning circle to integrate a civic education collaborative project
into a classroom teaching.
Please,
note that all of the discussions of the course throughout the nine
weeks will take place in the iEARN online Forum. All assignments are
expected to be posted in the Forum as well. The iEARN online Forum
provides a space for ongoing interactions among course facilitators and
participants throughout the course.
WEEK 1
Lesson 1 - Getting Ready: Teacher Hello Messages
ï Know how to send and receive messages
ï Prepare your ìTeacher Helloî message to send on the first day
ï Explain the Learning Circle concept to your students
ï Create a plan for sending, receiving, sharing, and storing electronic messages
WEEK 2
Lesson 2
ï Print a copy of your Learning Circle partnersí names and addresses
ï Sent ìTeacher Helloî message to the Circle
ï Students completed and sent Class Survey to the Circle
ï Discussed or thought about possible Circle projects to sponsor
WEEK 3
Lesson 3
ï Discussed project ideas
ï Selected a project to sponsor
ï Project described to the Circle
ï Sent a response of your own project as a sample to what students should send
ï Procedures set for assigning students to work on projects
WEEK 4
Lesson 4
ï Sent one or more contributions to each Circle project
ï Sent weekly update messages
ï Monitoring student progress on all Circle projects
ï Deadlines set for the receipt of project work
ï Calendar marked for deadline on each of the projects
WEEK 5

ï Discuss length and format of your section of the Circle publication
ï Set deadlines for finishing your section and posting it on the Internet

ï Send a goodbye message to your Learning Circle
ï Make sure that all students have
the opportunity to read the published stories on the Internet
ï Thank your Circle Facilitator and Mentor
ï Give out Learning Circle Certificates to students

successful completion of an iEARN online course is only the beginning
of a fruitefull collaboration between You, your students and your
school, and the iEARN global community! You will have many other
opportunities for professional development to participate in various
international, regional and local conferences and share your
experiences of working on collaborative projects. We will keep in touch
