iEARN Teachers and students at the 8th Annual iEARN Conference in Capetown, South Africa in 2001.

Gatherings

In 1994, iEARN teachers came together physically in Argentina to hold the first iEARN International Conference--which has become an annual event (Australia-1995; Hungary-1996; Spain-1997; USA-1998; Puerto Rico-1999; China-2000; South Africa-2001, Russia-2002, Japan-2003, Slovakia-2004, Senegal-2005, Netherlands-2006. Educators from over 70 countries gather each year. This conference, which is open to all, is a chance to share and learn from teachers how technology is being used in the classroom (and to meet other teachers with whom you have been working on-line!). During the year, many other conferences/camps/meetings are held on the national and regional levels throughout the world.

Since 1998, iEARN has held an International Youth Summit in conjunction with the International Teachers' Conference. Students worldwide come together to build bonds of friendship and plan future collaborative project work.

"(It)was an experience of lifetime for me, I could not believe that (so many) people from 62 different nations are all together sharing the same purpose that is to bring piece, love and safety to the globe. I forgot the geographical boundaries, the fact that we speak different language or that we are of different race, colour or follow different traditions I just remembered that we are "WE" and "TOGETHER with a "COMMON CAUSE" that we can "MAKE DIFFERENCE" to the world. That moment I have undergone an internal transformation not easy to describe but as a result I feel differently towards the globe."

-Farah S. Kamal, iEARN Coordinator-Pakistan

"... it is so VERY hard to be anything but OVERWHELMED about MY experience! I read, I look at pictures, I REMEMBER and I read these wonderful, wonderful diaries of others and I think how fortunate WE have been to be in such a mind-altering, life changing experience. THANKS!"

-James C. Randolph, USA -following the 2000 iEARN Conference in Beijing
