Hello again iEARN-USA Teachers!

The holidays are behind us, and I hope that the passing of the year has brought you all peace, health, and community. Among the blessings I counted on New Year's Eve there was gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of this incredible network. You, the heart of iEARN, inspire me on a daily basis, and I know that together we are changing the world. It is an honor to work with you all!

I hope that by this time, you've all run out and gotten a copy of Teaching for Understanding with Technology written by Kristi Rennebohm Franz, an iEARN teacher in Seattle, Washington. We have some copies here in the office and I personally have been really enjoying it!

Below is the first 2005 installment of the US newsletter, which I hope you find useful and informative. As always, drop me a line if you have items you'd like to submit for inclusion, or suggestions for what more you'd like to see. And if you need anything-- passwords, help finding a forum or choosing a project, or anything else-- feel free to call or email me at any time. I love to hear from you!

May 2005 show the fruits of all of us around the world who labor for a better world!

Warmly,
Mariam

The conferences include students from local schools, as well as video conferencing with students in other locations. If you would like to participate or join in any of the events, please contact <youthcan@us.iearn.org>. iEARN-USA (American Museum of Natural History, New York City) and iEARN-Lebanon (American Community School) are already planning to host gatherings.  See http://www.youthcanworld.org for details and to get involved! Students have chosen the theme for this year's conference to be "Species becoming endangered due to human abuse."

6. Do you have an email address at Hotmail.com?

Every two weeks we send out about 15,000 copies of the iEARN News Flash.   Hotmail.com (and maybe some others) automatically puts messages in the "junk" or "spam" folder if they are sent to more than 500 users on their system.  If you know someone using hotmail.com and they are not receiving the iEARN News Flash, ask them to look in their junk folder and change the hotmail.mail setting to treat future News Flashes as regular mail.

7. Friends Circle forming in Egypt!

Below is a message from iEARN member Nuria Peguero about a wonderful project started up by two students in Egypt. Please join them!

Hello wonderful Teachers,

How are you? I hope that you all are in good health and feeling okay.  My name is Nuria, and I am an 18 year old from New York City. I also work at the iEARN office in the city.  I am writing you this email to tell you about a project called "Friends Circle", this idea of the project emerged from discussions that occurred on the "Get To Know Others" forum. The discussions were headed by Marwan Mostafa and Ahmed Agrama, two students from Egypt. These two have always dreamed of starting such a project, a project that enforces brotherhood and better understanding.  A project that initiates youth leadership...  I have seen through the discussions how much students are inspired by it, and how much participation such discussion has brought.  The project has been approved by high iEARN officials in Egypt such as Dr. Dalia and Ahmed Abd Elsattar.  The facilitators of this project need some sister schools to join them in their project, and to be part of their dream or to make their dream come true.  So it would be wonderful if you guys, our wonderful teachers, could get your school involved in the project... Is it possible to do this? I Have attached three documents in where you can find more information about the project, you will find the template and mission...  Also some things you must fill out.  I hope that you all will consider the request and have your students and or schools join this project.  Perhaps it can be a step towards peace, and what better way to start the new year.

I wish all the peace in the world to you all, and a happy new year,

Nuria-iEARN USA
