2008 Kurshan Youth Summit Scholarship
iEARN International Conference and Youth Summit
July 12-18
Bukhara, Uzbekistan
Application Deadline Extended to Friday, May 22nd
Since 2003, the Annual Kurshan Scholarship has been providing financial support for US students to attend the iEARN International Conference and Youth Summit - this year in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. The scholarship provides partial funding in the amount of $1,500 that a student can apply towards transportation costs and conference fees including registration, housing, and meals.
Requirements
- Middle or high school student
- Has previously never traveled abroad
- 1-page written recommendation from participating iEARN teacher
- 2 page written application from student that includes: 1) iEARN projects that she or he is presently involved in at school and other projects in which she or he previously participated; 2) an explanation of why she or he wishes to attend this particular conference; 3) share how iEARN projects have changed their life and global perspectives 4) what role the student will play in the upcoming year to promote iEARN/global partnerships at their school; and 5) how they anticipate sharing the experience of the conference upon return to school and community.
- Post-Summit/Conference she or he will write an article (or report) about his/her experience to be submitted to iEARN-USA.

Selection Criteria
Recipient will be selected based on involvement with iEARN projects and potential contribution to the Youth Summit, as well as continued contributions to iEARN. A committee consisting of representatives from the iEARN-USA staff and the Kurshan family will review applications.
Travel Notes
- Estimated costs for Youth Summit is $341 (including $171 for double room/housing, $70 for meals - lunch, dinner and two breaks, and conference costs) not including airfare. Online websites are quoting $2,000 and above for flights, please contact us for a group discount. (We currently have a group rate at $1,600 and are hopeful the rate will lower to about $1,300 round-trip NYC/Tashkent/NYC)
