Building Bridges Program
iEARN administers the Building Bridges Program, funded by the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art, which promotes online collaboration among classrooms in the countries of Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and the United States. The mission of the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art is to promote the study and understanding of Islamic arts and cultures. Scholarships are available for US teachers from all disciplines to enroll in iEARN’s online professional development courses and learning circles this fall and spring. Youth Exchange & Study (YES) Program*
The YES program provides high school students from countries with significant Muslim populations the opportunity to live in the United States with a host family and attend school for an academic year. iEARN partners in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Liberia, Suriname, Ethiopia, and the Arab Communities of Israel all participate in the program. Turkish Youth Innovation & Entrepreneurship Program
Teachers interested in working with Turkish classrooms in a new business and entrepreneurship-themed iEARN project funded by the US Embassy in Ankara should contact Rustin Crandall (rustin@us.iearn.org) as soon as possible. Two teachers participating in the project will be selected to travel to Ankara, Turkey and help conduct a workshop there from January 25-27, 2010.
Fulbright Teacher Programs*
The Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program provides opportunities for K-12 teachers to participate in direct one-to-one classroom exchanges with colleagues from other countries for a semester or academic year. This year’s participating countries include: Czech Republic, France, Ghana, Hungary, India, Mexico, Slovak Republic, Switzerland, Turkey and the UK. The deadline for applications is October 15, 2009.
The Distinguished Award program offers fellowships to teachers to receive a grant to study at a university, conduct research, teach classes and workshops, and develop a capstone project pertaining to their field of educational inquiry during a semester overseas. This year’s participating countries include: Argentina, Finland, India, Israel, Singapore, and South Africa.The deadline for applications is January 15, 2010.

National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y)*
Scholarships are available for eligible high school students to learn Arabic, Chinese, Farsi (Persian), Hindi, Korean, Russian, and Turkish in summer, semester, and academic-year overseas immersion programs as part of the NSLI-Y Program.
iEARN encourages educators to share this exciting opportunity with their students. Students with a passion for learning languages, communicating across cultures, and living abroad are encouraged to apply by December 4, 2009.
