Kids and Geography:  Roper Public Affairs Study

On May 2, 2006 iEARN-USA joined National Geographic to launch a five-year multimedia campaign, My Wonderful World.  Led by National Geographic, My Wonderful World's goal is to improve the geographic literacy of young people working with parents, educators and schools.  iEARN-USA is part of a supportive Coalition consisting of 18 other organizations, all committed to educate and motivate communities to learn and appreciate world geography.

Using online collaborative projects and other resources, iEARN-USA will support My Wonderful World by sharing over 300 projects that can provide students, schools and parents opportunities to reach across and around the globe.  This virtual connection encourages a limitless understanding of world geography that goes beyond a land's physical characteristics, but provides a platform for students to learn about a country's people, culture and society.

Dr. Ed Gragert, Executive Director of iEARN-USA shares, "At a time when the world and its economic and political impact are part of every day and everyone in the US, it is an imperative skill for the 21st Century to know about and respect the planet and its people. Through online collaborative projects in iEARN, students interact and learn with peers in other countries around the globe. This connection takes students on a journey beyond simply studying about the world. Such open dialogue between students promotes a deeper, more rooted, understanding of geography and it becomes real.
