History of iEARN
Peter Copen, founder of iEARN and current President of The Copen Family Fund once said, "This is not only about education - it's about saving the world, and the role that education can play in it." Peter began the first telecommunications connection between the former Soviet Union and the United States.  The project entitled, International Education and Resource Network [iEARN], demonstrated that education could be enhanced and the quality of life on the planet improved if young people were to use technology to engage in collaborative projects. He launched the network feeling that crucial issues facing the planet, from environmental degradation to cultural misunderstanding, were not being addressed in schools, and that young people could and should be taught how to deal with the issues that face humanity as part of their education.

"Together, and only together as a concerned and caring family/community,  can we educate our children to be able to make a meaningful contribution to the health and welfare of people and the planet."
iEARN was honored as a Laureate in the Education category for the 2004 Tech Museum Awards
